The prestigious Dabarkads Awards ceremony was first held in 2014, which was the same year that the Lenten specials returned on television after its seven-year hiatus.

Prior to shooting the 2014 episodes, the Dabarkads hosts weren't informed that there was going to be an awards ceremony. They were surprised to learn about the acting awards later on. Malou Choa-Fagar, one of the executives of TAPE, Inc. explained that the management didn't "want the awards to be the motivation, but more of a reward for a job well done, for a job that is unfamiliar to most of them".

Throughout the years, the awards ceremony featured different categories to recognize the actors and stories of each Lenten episodes. An esteemed panel of judges selected the winners of each category. In the 2014 and 2015 edition, home viewers were given the ability to vote for the winners via text message.

The ceremony was not held in 2017, but occurred the following year in 2018. It has not been held since then.
