The theme song of Eat Bulaga! has been a constant part of the program since its debut in 1982, when the program was launched as one of RPN 9's domestic satellite programs and with Coney Reyes' entry in the Eat... Bulaga! family that same period.

The lyrics were penned by Vincent Dybuncio and Pancho Oppus, while the melody was composed by Vic Sotto and musical arrangement by Homer Flores.

This famous theme song was revised many times, and was used to different opening billboards (OBBs) of Eat Bulaga!.

HistoryEdit

Original lyrics (1982-1988) Edit

Until 1982, the song had no real theme song. Instead, a Tough Hits song by Tito, Vic and Joey-- 'It Bulaga' was used in its place. However almost three years since the programme's premiere, its production team and management had realised that it needed a theme song that should be easily recognisable and associable with the now number one noontime variety show. Before the theme song was released, rumours of a new co-host joining the programme was around after Chiqui Hollman left the show. This was confirmed when teasers of the new theme song kept playing the first line of the third stanza ("Sina Tito, Vic and Joey") but immediately cutting it at the end of the second line ("Kasama pati si ---").

Finally on 18 May 1982, the theme song was debuted in the television special Eat... Bulaga!: The DOMSAT Launch. In that same special, the person that for so long was kept a secret to the general viewing public was heralded as the newest part of the EB family— it was Coney Reyes-Mumar.

Aiza joins the show (1988-1995) Edit

In 1987, Little Miss Philippines runner-up Aiza Seguerra joined the main cast. But until that time, the original lyrics still mentioned the main four hosts (Tito, Vic, Joey, and Coney). In 1988, on the show's 9th anniversary, the lyrics on the third stanza mentioning the names of the main hosts were revised to include Aiza.

The family grows bigger (1995-1998) Edit

The revised lyrics was unchanged even after the program's move to ABS-CBN 2 in 1989. However, as hosts like Jimmy Santos, Ruby Rodriguez, Christine Jacob, Rio Diaz and Lady Lee were added to the programme, it was clear that the theme was proving to be outdated, especially with the lines mentioning the hosts-- Coney had by now left Eat... Bulaga! in 1991. It was only in 1995, on the same day that EB left ABS-CBN for GMA, that the lyrics were revised to reflect that growing number.

The entire Philippines (1998-) Edit

The last major change to the lyrics were made sometime in 1998, coinciding with the centenary of Philippine independence. It is said to be caused by a letter of complaint from the government of Batanes (the northernmost province) concerning that the people there felt left out by the theme song, which had been broadcast there also. Thus, the first line, "Mula Aparri hanggang Jolo" (which is now an expression in itself referring to the whole Philippines) was changed to "Mula Batanes hanggang Jolo" in response to that, and now keeping with the accuracy of the country's "wholeness":

Lyrics Edit

1982-1988 Edit

Mula Aparri hanggang Jolo,
Saan ka man ay halina kayo
Isang libo't isang tuwa
Buong bansa, Eat... Bulaga!

Buong bansa ay nagkakaisa
Sa tuwa't saya na aming dala
Isang libo't isang tuwa
Buong bansa, Eat... Bulaga!↵

Sina Tito, Vic and Joey; kasama pati si Coney
Apat silang nagbibigay-ligaya sa ating buhay↵

Variations through the yearsEdit

There had been variations of the theme song's lyrics and melody through the years since its introduction in 1982.

  • In 1989, on the programme's move to ABS-CBN 2, a special arrangement of the theme song was performed on the television special Eat... Bulaga!: Moving On!. It was remembered from its deviation from the original arrangement, however, a complete recording of it is yet to be heard again.
  • In 2003, the SexBomb Girls covered the theme song (which was used in the program's opening billboard from 2003 to 2004), where they completely omitted Tito Sotto's name from the song, in part due to his long absence in the program, as well as tweaking the line following it:

Sina Tito, Vic at Joey, Buong tropa ay kasali!

  • In 2004, the opening of the Silver Anniversary Special saw Tito, Vic and Joey singing the opening line of the theme song until the co-hosts singing their lines of the song in different languages, including Bikolano, Cebuano, Waray-waray and Tagalog. Also the live version of the song was used in the program's opening billboard until 2005, which omits Tito, Vic and Joey performing the opening line and a guitar solo of the theme song.

Isuda Tito, Vic ken Joey, barkada'y umad ado dan
Silang tanan ay naghahandog, kalipayan sa atong buhay!
Union el entero pais para del alegria ta lleva kame
Sarong ribo, sarong ogma; gabos kita... Eat Bulaga!

  • In 2005, Francis Magalona added rap lines to the theme song:

Bulagaan sa tanghali lalong umiinit, laging ginagaya dahil puno ng gimik
sa puso mo'y walang iba kundi saya, tumutok na kayo buong bansa!

  • In 2007, a version of the theme song was featured in the OBB of that same year with the lines switching genres from Jazz to Reggae to Dance-pop to Hip-hop to Rock.
  • In 2009, during the celebration of the show's 30th anniversary, the intro music was similar to the Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling", and after the first part of the song, the hosts would say "Eat Bulaga!" seven times. It was used as the closing intro of the show.
  • The presently-used instrumental version of the theme song, dating back to 2012, is a modernized version of the 1982 arrangement.
