Feeling Pogi 2019 is an edition of Eat Bulaga!'s talent search for unattractive men who exude confidence with their looks, talent, and appeal. The segment is a spoof of Mr. Pogi 2019 and aired as a subsegment of Juan for All, All for Juan: Bayanihan of d' Pipol. It premiered on 29 July 2019 and concluded on 7 September 2019.
The month-long competition was one of the 15 Tatak Eat Bulaga! segments revived as part of the noontime show's 40th anniversary celebration.[1] The short-lived and rapid-fire revival of the segments aimed to give the new generation of Filipinos an opportunity to experience the show's several iconic and original contests. Winners were scheduled to face off in the Tatak Eat Bulaga! Grand Showdown in mid-2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic postponed the final competition indefinitely.
Joshua Mapalad, the 24-year-old "Paul Salas" look-alike from Meycauayan, Bulacan, was proclaimed as the grand winner at the end of the competition.[2] He entertained the audience with his beatboxing skills as well as his willingness to repeatedly dive in the muddy rice field where the grand finals was held.
Overview
Daily rounds
The daily rounds occurred from 29 July to 29 August 2019 at the various barangays where Juan for All, All for Juan: Bayanihan of d' Pipol was held. They were collaboratively hosted by the barangay hosts and the studio hosts.
Each round featured three (or occasionally two) new contestants who competed against one another with their talent, wit, and confidence. The contestants showed their skills and abilities in the talent portion, and then tested their wit and confidence in the interview portion with humorous questions provided by the studio hosts.
The original criteria for judging were as follows:
- 40% – Feeling Pogi looks
- 30% – Hindi nahihiya at malakas ang loob
- 20% – Talent na feel na feel
- 10% – Feel ng mga amiga
After the third episode, the criteria was simplified and humorously equaled 110% after the high standards set by the first daily contestants. The new criteria were as follows:
- 55% – Feel na feel na talent
- 55% – Lakas ng loob
Winners received ₱10,000 and advanced to the grand finals. Each winner also took home the ridiculous prize of the day, such as a worn-out shoe, a broken television antenna, or a scrapped motor scooter. Eliminated contestants were given a consolation prize of ₱5,000.
Closed-door screening
Prior to the grand finals, a panel of Eat Bulaga! hosts held a closed-door meeting to review previous videos of each grand finalist and to determine who would advance to the Top 8 in the grand finals. The decisions of the judges were based on the performances and personality of the contestants during the daily rounds.
The panel included Joey de Leon, Jose Manalo, Allan K, Luane Dy, Pia Guanio, Pauleen Luna, and Ruby Rodriguez. The Top 8 finalists were announced during the grand finals.
Grand finals
The grand finals took place on Saturday, 7 September 2019 in the middle of a paddy field at Brgy. Santol, Balagtas, Bulacan.
The panel of judges included actor Jerald Napoles and comedian Sugar Mercado. Also in the panel were the main cast members of the 2019 film The Panti Sisters dressed as their characters: Martin del Rosario (as Daniel Panti), Christian Bables (as Samuel Panti), and Paolo Ballesteros (as Gabriel Panti). The criteria of judging were as follows:
- 30% – Kapogian at lakas ng loob
- 60% – Feel na feel na talent
- 10% – Audience impact
For the final time, the 21 contestants took their introductory walk across the muddy rice field at the barangay venue of the grand finals. Meanwhile, Alden Richards graced the stage at APT Studios with a dance number for the opening presentation.
Closed-door screening results (Top 8)
The 21 finalists were immediately narrowed down into the Top 8 based on the results of the closed-door screening. After each name was announced, the contestant immediately underwent an interview portion and a talent portion. In the interview portion, contestants received a question from one of the judges which they must answer within 45 seconds. The contestants then showed their skills and abilities in the talent portion.
The Top 8 finalists were Mark Joseph Amor, June Carlo Baquiler, Toni Panagu, McDave Galfo, Noldi Ramos Guilaran, Jerico Flores, Tikyo Cruz, and Joshua Mapalad.
Final results
