Hype Kang Bata Ka! 2020 is the second edition of the talent competition for children who are 12 years old or below. The segment premiered on 13 January 2020 and concluded on 29 February 2020.
Formerly part of Juan for All, All for Juan: Bayanihan of d' Pipol, Hype Kang Bata Ka! 2020 became a standalone studio segment. This 2020 edition is part of the show's 40th anniversary revival of Tatak Eat Bulaga! segments. The revival of these segments is meant to give the new generation of Filipinos an opportunity to get a taste of the show's several iconic competitions.
Shammah Rophe Alegado, the 12-year-old violinist of San Antonio, Zambales, was hailed as the grand winner of the 2020 edition. He will then join the winners of the other revived segments in the much-awaited Tatak Eat Bulaga! Grand Showdown. Meanwhile, 9-year-old singer Princess Jilianne Cañete of Antipolo, Rizal emerged as the first runner-up of the competition.
Overview
Auditions
The talent contest was open to talented children who are 12 years old or below with impressive talents, such as singing, dancing, ventriloquy, and magic tricks. Auditions were held at APT Studios.
Daily rounds
The daily rounds occurred from 13 January to 8 February 2020. Each daily round featured two new contestants who must compete against one another with their remarkable skills and talents.
The winners of the daily rounds received a cash prize of ₱20,000 and advanced to the semifinal rounds of the competition.
Semifinal rounds
The semifinal rounds occurred from 10 February to 24 February 2020. The 24 daily winners returned once again to showcase their various skills and talents in order to gain a spot in the next round of the competition. They were categorized into seven clusters of the same or similar talents. The seven clusters were:
- Hip-Hype: hip-hop dancing
- Incredible Hype: hands and feet tricks
- Hype Pitch: singing
- Hype Band: musical instruments
- Hype-Mazing: various dancing styles
- Hype Beat: rapping/beatboxing
- Wonder Hype: unique talents
Each day, two contestants of the same cluster usually faced against each other in the semifinal rounds. Occasionally, battles between contestants of different clusters occur due to the odd number of finalists within their clusters. Winners advanced to the qualifying rounds of the competition.
Qualifying rounds
The qualifying rounds were held from 25 February to 28 February 2020. A total of 12 contestants competed once again to showcase their talents live on stage. Each round featured three contestants from any of the seven clusters. The qualifying rounds determined the four finalists that would advance to the grand finals of the competition.
Grand finals
The grand finals occurred on Saturday, 29 February 2020. It was hosted by Pauleen Luna, Maine Mendoza, Alden Richards, Ryzza Mae Dizon, Allan K, and Baste Granfon. Four grand finalists competed against one another, showcasing their all-out performances in the final round of the competition.
The panel of judges included musical theater vocal director Manman Angsico, Center for Pop general manager John Jesus Manuel, and singer-songwriter Ice Seguerra. The criteria for judging were as follows:
- 40% – Mastery of skills
- 40% – Overall performance
- 20% – Audience impact
Shammah Alegado, the 12-year-old violinist of San Marcelino, Zambales, was hailed as the grand winner of the competition. He took home ₱100,000 in cash and other gift packs from the segment's sponsors. He will then compete against the winners of the other revived segments in the Tatak Eat Bulaga! Grand Showdown.
Princess Jilianne Cañete, the 9-year-old singer of Antipolo, Rizal, emerged as the first runner-up and received ₱20,000.
